THE BEST FISHING IN GUANAJA
Reel Em’ in from the most diverse aquatic eco systems in the world!
Guanaja’s waters offer the ardent angler an aquatic paradise teeming with Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Jacks, Grouper and Snapper. Anglers are successful with ultra-light rigs fishing from the beaches, the boat, flats and estuaries that are all over the island. Our local fishing guides are the best in the Bay Islands. We fish only 2 anglers and 1 guide per boat.
A typical day of fishing starts around 7:00am and returning at 3-4 pm. Lunch is either brought in the boat or we stop by a local restaurant to break up the day. First stops are less than 30 minutes from the resort.
Bring back your catch and our cook will be happy to cook it for you!
ULTRA LIGHT FISHING IN GUANAJA There are few anglers and lots of fish to catch. We use 6-12lb test with wire leaders. Live baits like live minnows, Fiddler and hermit crabs. Lures, and artificial baits.
BONEFISH: Typical sizes are 4-8 lbs. and as high as 10lbs. Much larger on the average compared to Belize, Mexico and the Florida Keys.
PERMIT: We get daily shots at Permit throughout the day both from the beach and flats. These babies average 6-12lbs and give a hell of a fight!
TARPON: We routinely catch smaller sized Tarpon in the 6-40lb range mostly in creek mouths and small estuaries around Guanaja. Large monsters to 80+lbs are found cruising around Mangrove Bight and the surrounding lagoons. Sight casting works well on the tide.
BARRACUDA: We usually fish for these at slack water. Sizes between 7-20lbs
JACKS: Hardy and robust fighting fish. Usually Jacks are seen in pursuit of other fast moving fish. They will eat almost anything strategically placed in front of them Get your lure or live bait in front of their swim path
GROUPER: We normally bottom fish for these beauties. Live bait and cut bait get results. Bring back and give to our cook so we can prepare your catch.
SNAPPER: Bottom feeders as well. Many swim mid water and hit on anything from live crabs and minnows and minnow lures. We will cook your catch. Nothing tastes better than that!
